Summer Day Camp for STEAM Makers (Grade 1-8)
Topics: Building Things with 3D Scanning and 3D Printing
July 29 – August 2, 2019 9am – 4pm
Before and After Care available
Are you intrigued with 3D Printing and 3D Scanning? Would you like to learn how to operate a handheld 3D scanner and a desktop 3D printer to create copies of real objects? Look no further than Makerwiz Summer Day Camp: BUILD IT!
3D Printing is a digital fabrication process in which material is added layer by layer on top of each other to create real objects. 3D Scanning is a data collection process using devices that analyze real objects or environment to obtain information about their shapes and appearances. In this 5-day Summer Camp, participants will learn how to use Matter and Form and Structure Sensor 3D scanners to capture the shapes of real objects and create 3-dimensional files for them. They will then learn how to edit 3D files using MeshMixer. Finally, they will also learn to operate several desktop 3D printers (by Prusa, MakerBot and LulzBot) to make copies of the original objects, essentially replicating them. Campers will compete in teams for prizes, and everyone will be able to take home a 3D printed copy of their 3D scanned portrait.
Camp includes Movie Outing on Tuesday and Pizza Lunch on Friday, as well as outdoor activities in the afternoons (weather permitting). Due to our focus on small group, project-based learning, spaces are extremely limited. Register ASAP! Early Bird tickets are on sale until February 28 only.
Participants may bring their own computer for the workshop. A PC or Mac notebook less than 4 years old with capability for Internet access is ideal. We will be providing access to a Chromebook per team of 2 participants.
Participants are required to bring their own water bottle, snacks and lunch. Please note that only nut-free foods are allowed. Morning break (10:30-10:45am), lunch hour (12-1pm) and afternoon break (2:30-2:45pm) will be supervised.
We will be contacting each ticket purchaser to provide the name, age, gender, grade and special needs of the intended participants in a registration form. Camp waiver forms must also be filled in before the first day of camp. Please leave us a valid email address where you can be contacted.
