In this workshop, participants will learn about the theory and practical aspects of 3D scanning using popular 3D scanners available today, such as the MakerBot Digitizer, the Matter and Form 3D scanner, and the Occipital Structure Sensor/3DS iSense scanner.  Some 3D scanning apps that will be discussed include 123D Catch, Makerware, Structure/iSense, Sense, etc.  The aim is to introduce 3D scanning to the uninitiated and to provide them with the opportunity to practice this new technology, thus inspiring them to fully utilize 3D scanning to capture new data for 3D printing.

• Explore the basic principles behind 3D scanners
• Practice doing 3D scanning on objects and people
